ESTA Renewal & Validity Guide

An approved ESTA USA authorization is generally valid for two years — or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. During that period you may make multiple trips to the United States, each of up to 90 days. There is no partial renewal; when your current authorization can no longer be used, you simply apply for a new one at ta.us.com.

Passport renewal resets everything

Since ESTA is linked to the passport number, a renewed or replaced passport means your current authorization no longer applies — you need a new application before your next departure. Most travelers in this situation are confused whether their ESTA "carries over"; it does not.

If your application is pending or denied

Most authorizations are approved within hours; lookups can take up to 72 hours. If your application is not approved in time, you may need a visa interview. Practical Czech-language guidance for the whole application process is at ta.us.com.

Planning trips correctly

• Apply well ahead of your flight — many airlines check authorization before boarding.
• You can update some details, but a passport change requires a new application.
• Keep a copy (PDF/screenshot) of your approval for offline reference while abroad.
